Thursday April 12 2018

A 5:00 am start to Cape Coast and Elmina Castle was scheduled today for the majority of the Canadian portion of the team. Surprisingly after our long day and late night yesterday the team was able to depart at 5:10 am. We picked up Emmanuel Agyeman on the way, making good time, since our early start allowed us to avoid significant traffic holdups.
En route we passed through a number of villages’ market day, with a variety of goods on offer. The mass of humanity circulating in the markets was quite amazing. Travel is Ghana is not quick. Rumble strips and formidable concrete traffic ramps (speed bumps) frequently placed across the roads, many for no apparent reason, threaten the suspensions of the strongest vehicles, and ensure that progress is leisurely at best. Even where the authorities have not placed official ramps, local residents place piles of earth across the roads to act as temporary ramps! In addition, police checkpoints are also frequent – at least twelve today!
Crawling through village markets and passing through every police checkpoint gave the team opportunities to distribute tracts. Upon arrival at Elmina castle we were approached by hawkers selling a variety of trinkets. It was another opportunity to distribute some tracts. The team then took the tour of Elmina and learned some of the sad history of the slave trade. A large proportion of slaves exported from Africa left through Elmina castle. The conditions in which they were kept in the castle before being loaded onto ships were truly deplorable and inhuman.
Some of the team members swam in the ocean but found the waves and undertow very strong. A leisurely meal was had on the beach and the team enjoyed relaxing after two strenuous weeks. Nevertheless, despite enjoying relaxation eyes were continually open for those with whom tracts and the Gospel could be shared. Currently a team member is witnessing to a Muslim man while he has his dinner. Night has fallen and the cooling breezes are wafting off the ocean.

Thank you for following along, and for your continued support in prayer.  You can find daily updates, pictures and video from the outreach in Ghana at the eTeam’s Facebook page.
