“I thought it good to declare the signs and wonders that the Most High God has worked for me.” Daniel 4:2

It is good to be able to tell you about the things that God is doing through and for this team in Ghana. Today was our first day of evangelism and, as such, was a day full of testimony and gospel preaching. We spent the morning with two primary school groups. In each school, members of the team shared the gospel through the use of a wristband with five colours, each illustrating a part of the good news. Zach used the paint board to tell the children about the salvation that comes only through the death of the Lord Jesus, and Stephen told the children that God could make their hearts clean from sin, using a chemistry demonstration. Nico shared the greatness of the love of God to the children. The children were attentive and well behaved, and it was a thrill to see so many children soaking in the message of the cross. At each school, the gospel wristbands were given out and the children had an opportunity to greet the team members (quite enthusiastically, might I add!). Upon returning home for lunch, we found that our older Sisters, Mama Susanna and Mama Sarah, had taken it upon themselves to spend the morning passing out gospel tracts to those around them in the neighbourhood. Each of these Sisters is in their senior years with some difficulties getting around. It was a thrill to see them find purpose and overcome whatever obstacles were in front of them in their zeal to spread the Good News. They are such an encouragement to the team!

Later in the morning Sean shared a devotional with the team, reminding us of our dependency on God in prayer. He encouraged us to expect answers from God to the prayers we have prayed as a team. Lunch was served lovingly and cheerfully by Sisters Priscilla and Jennifer, after which we headed out to pass out tracts and find souls to share the gospel with on the streets of Kumasi. For the most part, the Ghanaian people willingly accepted the tracts and were open to engaging in conversation. The Ghanaian team members were integral to the rest of the team in interpretation and seeking out people who would listen. Conversations were had with many Muslims, young people and those in shops waiting for customers. There are open hearts here in Ghana, and many people with difficult lives who are wanting to know why God allows such suffering among them. It is a privilege for each of us to be able to share the fact that God does, indeed, love them, and to point them to Christ and the “hope of eternal life which God, who cannot lie, promised before time began”.

After street evangelism, we were given an opportunity to visit the Kumasi Children’s Home, an orphanage for children of all ages. Many of the orphans are disabled or have special needs. Stephen gave his gospel chemistry demonstration (which is always a big hit among children and adults alike), and Alfred explained the gospel using the colours on the wristband. When it came time for Charles to give his testimony, with Emmanuel interpreting, the heavens opened and a torrential downpour began. The rain was so heavy that it became almost impossible to hear above it, but both Charles and Emmanuel were determined to share God’s good news and persevered. Several of the children listened intently and we pray that God, Who is the Father to the fatherless, will comfort their hearts in the way that only He can do given their circumstances. After the presentation, team members happily interacted with children. We held them, told them Jesus loved them and prayed over them. They soaked up the attention and affection and again, we trust that the Lord will remind them of His great love to them through us, and that they will not forget it as they grow up. Emmanuel Senior took the opportunity to share the gospel with a group of about 20 ladies that were seeking shelter from the rain, while making a donation to the orphanage.

Due to the rain, we were not able to show the movie on our big outdoor screen as scheduled. However the Lord did bring several children to come and watch the movie indoors in our mission guesthouse, after which Shiloh shared her story of salvation along with the gospel wristband illustration.
We are hoping that tomorrow will be drier and we will be able to carry out the scheduled activities to bring the witness of the gospel to those in our immediate area.

Thank you to all who have been praying for and supporting this effort. Click here to go to our Facebook page for more updates, pictures and videos.
