Monday April 9 2018
The enthusiasm and desire of the team to communicate the Gospel is undimmed. After the many activities of the Lord’s Day the team members were up early and ready to deliver evangelistic programs at three local schools Monday morning at 8:00, 9:00 and 10:00 am.
Jesse and Kofi had their first opportunities to preach using the paint board, and both held the attention of the children and communicated very effectively. Almost everyone has become comfortable using the various “magic” tricks that gain attention and are used to illustrate the Gospel. Jesse is always a hit with the children, playing choruses in Canadian East coast “fiddle” style.
Jewell manned the kitchen today allowing Priscilla and her sister Faustina to join the team at the schools in the morning and in the afternoon outreach. After our customary quick lunch we left Kumasi for the village of Bonwire, approximately sixteen kilometres away. En route we came across a Seventh Day Adventist school where the children were in the playground. We asked for permission to preach the Gospel to the children and were immediately invited to do so. While an evangelistic program was in progress for the junior grades, comprising perhaps 100 students, our brother Ofori, an elder in the assembly, preached to the senior grades – a most worthwhile stop along the way.
Upon reaching the village we divided into our prearranged groups of three (with one group of four) and from the crossroads in the center of the village spread out to speak to villagers about the Gospel. Every group reported excellent conversations about the spiritual condition of those they met, and a number of contacts expressed interest in the Emmaus courses which are distributed and graded by the Assembly in Kumasi.
Bonwire is also a center for the production and sale of Kente Cloth, which was being sold in a number of stores. Kente Cloth has a history spanning 400 years and is hand-woven on a treadle loom. It was the cloth of kings and is still used on special occasions and in traditional ceremonies.
Our brother Richard, who was side-lined by malaria and typhoid for several days and who returned from hospital yesterday, was ready to go with the team to the schools this morning but was persuaded to remain at base to rest for at least another day. However, he is quite obviously gaining strength and returning to full health and we thank the Lord for answered prayer on his behalf – yours and ours.
Please pray for:
1. A school visit and more village evangelism on Tuesday.
2. Stamina and endurance for each team member, including those who work in the kitchen.
3. Maintenance of the personal relationship of each team member with the Lord.
4. The work of the Spirit of God in lives in which the seed of the Word has been sown.
Thank you for following along, and for your continued support in prayer. You can find daily updates, pictures and video from the outreach in Ghana at the eTeam’s Facebook page.
